After a lovely dry Summer, the first really wet day in months was the obvious choice for a Club walk along the exposed shingle spit to Hurst Castle. We proved that sailors are made of strong stuff (or are waterproof), as the rain and wind didn’t deter more than 30 club members (plus canines) from braving the great outdoors.
We had an introductory tour of the Castle, to give everyone a chance to get their bearings, before exploring further at our leisure. Hurst Castle is a very familiar sight for sailors leaving the Solent to the West, so it was interesting to have the opportunity to view from landside.
While some members had opted to enjoy the ferry ride out to the Castle, there was (unsurprisingly) greater uptake on the return journey, when the warm and dry Keyhaven Yacht Club was beckoning. Lunch and a refreshing drink gave people the opportunity to dry out a little!
