After what has felt like a very long winter, everybody was hoping that there would be an improvement in weather for the Spring Rally. Our Rear Commodore – Offshore did a remarkably good job with the sunshine, even if the rally itself was very nearly organised for the wrong day. Adding an extra boat to the fleet last minute proved very fortuitous, as the booking ‘challenge’ was identified in time. It’s always good to get the first Uncle Albert contender on the books nice and early…

Ten boats and 23 people found their way to East Cowes marina, with some boats enjoying more favourable wind performance than others. Depending on timings and location of home berth, it was possible to sail virtually dock to dock at a very civilised pace.

Tea and cakes on the pontoon gave everybody the opportunity to enjoy the sunshine a little longer, with a surprising amount of actual tea being drunk. Pimms did make an appearance, but wasn’t consumed at the rate seen previously.

With the first round of drinks completed, it was time to move along the pontoon to Polly, who was sadly making her farewell visit. She’s become a familiar sight in recent years, but is shortly moving on to pastures new.

Dinner was provided courtesy of The Lifeboat, and completed the evening entertainment.

The weather Gods continued to behave impeccably on the Sunday, producing a delightful day on the water for the return home.
