From Norfolk in England to Nevis in the Caribbean, from Antigua to Trafalgar, Admiral Lord Nelson loved – and was loved. Or not?
Not all Nelson’s exploits ended in success. He suffered considerable disasters, and died at the Battle of Trafalgar off the coast of Spain.
He was renowned for famously turning a blind eye to his commander’s instructions – but did the Establishment do the same to his numerous dalliances?
We take a romp through Nelson’s loves and losses.
Cathy Shelbourne has combined her experience in public speaking with her interest in maritime history.
She is a member of the Yachting Journalists’ Association (YJA), and the Society for Nautical Research (SNR); and is Editor of the Ipswich Maritime Trust (IMT) magazine.
Her series of talks on maritime heroes, brazen buccaneers and splendid ships are tailored to local places, national campaigns, and international anniversaries. Her Monumental Maritime Heroes playing cards will be on display, featuring these heroes and many more.
