Tom Dymond – “Hooked on the Horizon” – Nov 2021

Our speaker dropped out at the last minute, and we were fortunate to find Tom Dymond thanks to Brenden McGarvey who introduced Tom just a few days prior to our meeting.

Tom told us of his adventure of a lifetime sailing around the world with his old school friend James.  Tom selected highlights from the trip from a ferocious and frightening storm in the Atlantic to the Bay of Virgins, which he describes as ‘the most beautiful anchorage in the whole world.’ He read short extracts from his excellent book, ‘Hooked on the Horizon,’ which painted a vivid picture of the events.   

Tom’s delivery was laid back but not without humour and philosophy.

Asked what he missed most on the trip; Tom replied ‘a bimini’.  He also revealed that there was no fridge on board!
