Laying Up Supper – Dec 2019

As has become customary for our Laying Up Supper (or ‘Christmas do’, as it’s often known), we celebrated the start of the festive season with dinner at the Hare & Hounds in Speen. The event is always well attended, and this year was no exception, with 69 members joining the fun.
A delicious meal was served, drinks flowed, and the traditional raffle helped raise funds for the club as well as distributing some excellent prizes. The homemade Christmas cake and well stocked hamper are always targets for the early winners.
Although these elements are worthy of a night out in themselves, they also serve as a prelude for the presentation of the infamous Uncle Albert Award. Some years the award is more hotly contended than others, but there’s never a lack of candidates. This year’s recipient had put up a strong challenge to win it in previous years, so some thought it only a matter of time before the trophy made it’s way to him. The best things always come to those who wait, and Andy Holloway need wait no more. The faux pas; attempting to sail into some rocks, until the National Coastwatch Institution politely suggested Malaika should probably change course.
