Graham Horn was for many years Secretary then Chairman of the Reading Branch of the Kennet and Avon Canal Trust, and served on the Trust Council during the 1980s and 1990s. He continues to be involved as a qualified volunteer skipper on the Trust’s trip boat “Rose of Hungerford”. He estimates that he has given this talk over 300 times!
The Kennet and Avon Canal, across Southern England, is one of Britain’s premier inland waterways. This illustrated talk told the story of how the canal came about, its heyday, and decline. Then Graham spoke about the vision for restoration and how that took place over the last four decades of the 20th century.
