With a cold and wet weekend forecast, it was obviously time for the Frostbite Rally. The RAF Club in Hamble was the planned destination, so any less hardy folk could easily attend by road.

There were five boats which stuck to the traditional approach by sea, albeit two just needed to float down river – barely needing a motor and certainly not time to think about sails. A few more Club members arrived by road in time for the traditional mulled wine and cakes on the pontoon, and were rewarded with clear skies instead of rain. There was more tea drunk than any many rallies, perhaps a testament to the low temperature.

When it was time for dinner, many more Club members had arrived at the RAF Club, proving that a lack of boat is no deterent for attending events. The reward was a lovely evening, enjoying the first on-water event of 2026.
