Club member Jane Williams shared the tale of her journey from Newfoundland to Greenland in 2022.
Unsurprisingly, there were numerous challenges to be overcome, not least navigating the ever-changing ice flow.
A wooden boat may not be the obvious choice for such a northerly passage, but Gemervescence was a 50 foot yacht with plenty of experience of long passages, and the crew of four were confident she was more than up to the job.
As the title of the talk suggests, Jane spotted many icebergs, as well as several humpback whales. The photos of the icebergs in particular were incredibly impressive, although didn’t do the sheer size of them justice.
The talk was fascinating, but didn’t lead to a rush of members thinking about a similar trip north!
