Dr Stephen Payne OBE – Genesis of a Queen: Queen Mary 2

Wednesday  11th October 2023 7.15pm for 7.45pm The Presidents Room, The Bowlers Arms, Enborne Street, Wash Common, Newbury RG14 6TW

Stephen is a naval architect who has worked on the design of approximately 40 ships for the Carnival Corporation. Queen Mary 2 is unique amongst passenger ships of the world being a true ocean liner, rather than a cruise ship.

Whilst maintaining the traditions of a grand “Ship of State”, she is the only ship that continues to undertake the transatlantic crossing between the old world and the new.

Stephen Payne, the designer of the ship, describes what makes Queen Mary 2 so special and justifies his assertion that she is the greatest ship in the world.

He is currently an independent maritime consultant advocate for engineering careers.
