Barry Pickthall is back with us again, previously having given a very interesting and entertaining talk to begin our 2021-22 Winter Series about his part in organising the 2018 Golden Globe race.

The history of yachting photography from the 1850s to current times highlighting art forms, the playmakers and technology advances from plate cameras to sub-aqua and the latest drones and GoPros providing remote footage. This is one of Barry’s specialist subjects, having been MD of PPL Photo Agency (3 million photos) for the past 50 years.

Barry Pickthall is an award-winning yachting journalist, photographer and author. A former boatbuilder and naval architect, he was yachting correspondent for The Times for 20 years, and he has written 18 books about sailing.
