With a wealth of sailing experience behind him, Bruce Mayhew inevitably had many tales to tell, along with an accompanying list of attempts to be awarded the prestigious Uncle Albert award.

Recent exploits included an unplanned ‘swim’ in the River Dart, and an attempt to sink a Royal Yacht Squadron launch.

One of the GP audience members confirmed that Bruce had undersold some of the health issues which finally convinced Bruce that it was time to hang up his sailing boots and sell the final yacht of his fleet.

Bruce was under the impression there was a statute of limitations on eligibility for the Uncle Albert – only time will tell if he was successful at negotiating an exemption…
